If you log with agro they have 15mins to probe you out. Personally if you get away and stay away for long enough for the agro timer to run down then I'd say you have escaped and have no shame in logging out. If you logged right after you got away there is a good chance you have been probed out and killed.
If RL calls urgently then take the risk of the log-out timer seeing you lose your ship. You'd have to be very unlucky to have a RL emergency in the middle of a fight though.
Logging to escape a fight is lame, it's like 'winning' eve by never playing it. Sadly I see it all the time. Of course sometimes you just CTD but if that happens I log right back in and face the music. So far the nearest I have got to a CTD in combat was a very embarrasing evening when my vid card was playing up. Every time I dropped a dictor sphere my system would reboot. I got a new card the next day.

Play however you want. Logging out of the game is not playing the game though. Meta-gaming has always been lame and nobody likes cheats.
I can see it now. Tee up a game of chess with some Russian grand master, set the board, make the opening moves and play. Then, just as he goes to make the checkmate move you grab all your pieces and run out of the room.
When did this become acceptable? Am I just getting old? I'm a gamer, I play games. Win, lose or draw I play. It is a game for crying out loud, you will not actually die if you lose the fight! Lose a few fights you start to learn some skills, then you start winning. If you run from every challenge you will never learn anything and never feel the joy of a true victory or the sweet sorrow of a glorious defeat.
Enough with the alt scouts, enough with the EBay ISK, enough of the logging in and out of combat and enough of all the borderline "yet to be classified" exploits. Just play the damn game or don't play it at all.
Here's an idea, if you don't ever log in you can never lose a ship. If you never lose a ship then you don't have any expenses so you don't need to worry about making ISK. In fact save $14 a month, spend it on some beers and sit on your porch gloating over how you have a perfect loss:kill ratio and nobody in Eve can touch you.
F12 and Ctrl+Q are not for combat.

It always depends on whom you ask :P
In gaming terms anything that requires you to be out of the game then suddenly enter it to get the drop on an enemy is not a tactic. In terms of the game tactics can only exist within the game, everything else is just meta-bull****.
So 1PG have jumped on the log-in trap bandwagon too now?

Who cares about logging. Who cares people are gonna say its lame. Its part of the game and you cant do anything about
My advise, Just move on to your next target.
Bitter? no, dissapointed in the quality of 'gamers' these days, yes.
Logging out of the game is not part of the game. It's what you do when you stop playing the game. Not being able to stop it does not make it right. Ah well, if the best you can come up with in the heat of battle is to log out of the game then you ain't worth much to anyone.
The saddest part is that gamers understand what I am saying without me having to say it. People like you will never get it. I hear a lot of carebears whine about pirates and call into to question all manner of things about them but the truth is they are playing the game, nothing more. Logging out of fights is one of the few things you can do in a game that really does reflect on you as a person.
No need to say it though, you don't care what anybody thinks of you, just as long as you don't lose your ship.
